Nice, cheap, wont work w/factory bead(2009-11-24)
I bought this to get a little more precision than tapping the factory dovetail rear buckhorn with a ball-pean hammer. If you use this with the factory front bead/blade, you will shoot 6 inches high at 25 yards. There is no way to lower this sight to bring that bullet strike down any further. You MUST have the Williams front sight to go with it. Apparently, Brownell does not carry it, and there is no information about it at Williams either. There is a set for $10 more. I don't know why the rear sight is even offered by itself.
Great addition for accuracy(2011-07-05)
Although as mentioned, front sight needs to be changed, sight works great. Adjustments are easy and a few clicks has you on target in no time.
Installed on a camp carbine, works great(2011-07-26)
There is an incorrect answer on the FAQ page of this product. Marlin Camp Carbines (both 9mm and 45 ACP) share the same scope base as the 336, and as such this product WILL fit on a Camp Carbine. In fact, I've seen this sight on a 336, and it actually fits better on a Camp Carbine: on a 336 the sight hangs off the back of the reciever if it's mounted in the back holes, which looks bad but doesn't quite interfere with the hammer. Some people mount it in the front holes, but that's pretty far away from your eye. IMHO, a skinner sight would work (and look) better on a 336.
But for my Camp 9, this sight is perfect. As everyone should know by now, a new front sight is required, but if you purchase the set, you get a Williams front Firesight to go with it. I'm a big fan: it's basically a battery-less red dot.
I was surprised to find the adjustment scale stamped on the RIGHT, instead of the left side. (I should have noticed this in the pictures.) Some people might take issue with this, since it makes more sense for it to be on the left side, where your head and eyes are. Williams FP sights have the scale stamped on the left, so I wonder why they chose to do the opposite for this sight. I'm not complaining, because I'm a southpaw. I wish they made a "left-handed" Foolproof sight.
One minor disappointment: the adjustment scale is NOT painted. Some pictures online show that it is, so perhaps they used to be. I found a teeny brush and some white paint and fixed that myself.
Aperture is the standard threaded kind and can be replaced with all sorts of different sizes. Or keep it off and use the rear sight as a ghost ring.
