SA mil spec and ed brown flat ms housing (2012-04-15)

Bought this and the ed brown flat mainspring housing to replace the ILS housing on the back of my SA mil spec. the parts are perfect, no flaws. FYI this kit is not needed if wanting to change out the ILS housing with something else, you can use the stock parts provided in the SA ILS housing with another housing... but these parts are nice and are a welcome upgrade. Make sure you wear safety glasses while messing with your MS housing, especially if you're not using a bench vise!!

1911 Mainspring Housing rebuild kit (2018-06-23)

I recently purchased three of the SS spring sets for my SA 1911-A1 in 9mm and 45 ACP plus my older Ruger 1911 45 ACP. I installed the spring kits in new Ed Brown arched mainspring housings. The ones with the vertical grooves. What a difference. The arched grip feels so much more comfortable over a flat housing design. Plus the bottom of the frame / grip no longer digs into the palm of my hand. I was contemplating doing a "Bobtail" on each of my pistols but this was a much easier and cheaper solution with great results. The spring kit is everything you need to rebuild a mainspring housing. As a kit the overall price is cheaper than purchasing each component on their own. Good product and a great price. Thanks Brownells.

It's perfect (2010-08-24)

Drops right in to your mainspring housing if you need to replace the spring, pins, all the internals. Handy if you want to delete any safety lock mechanisms that are associated with the MSH like the Springfield Armory ILS.

Used in conjunction with a new Springfield Armory 20 LPI Flat Mainspring Housing without ILS. Replaced the Arched ILS Mainspring Housing/ Mainspring hardware that came with my SA 1911-A1 GI Model.

Kit allowed me to rid the gun of this silly "safety" feature, and get that classic slim look and feel that 1911's were meant to have. Parts were well-packaged, well-labeled, and the mainspring is a Wolff 23 lb'er. Easy 4 minute install with common hand tools and a little patience. Hammer fall and trigger pull are slightly more crisp, and I now have full confidence in the parts in the Mainspring housing area.

Very good kit (2011-04-09)

I like it, comes with every thing you need to replace your factory set up. This is a good replacement for pistols equipped with the ISL in the mainspring housing. This kit gets the job done.

Springfield Owners:
This will work with the Springfield ILS,and includes a mainspring cap, which Springfield's don't have, so if you change out to an Ed Brown or S&A magwell, this makes it super easy.

Easy ILS replacement (2014-02-24)

Bought this to replace ILS internals when replacing MSH for a magwell setup on a Springer Loaded. Easy to install with a little patience in installing housing pin. Used 18 lb hammer spring instead of the factory 23 lb spring which was included. Nice kit and handy to have on handif you own several 1911s.

Great all-around kit! (2014-06-17)

These parts fit wonderfully in my newly purchased Ed Brown Blank MSH! What is great about this kit is that they didn't just take parts from "no name" manufacturers; they took some of the best parts they could find and combined them into one package! The mainspring was a little stiff at first but, after cocking the hammer about 50 times, it loosened up. The only real con I can give about this kit is that it is a little tricky to install without a vice (Had to have another person hold the mainspring down while I installed the pin). But, I'm not going to deduct a star because of that. Overall, this is a great kit for those who are either buying a new MSH or just want to replace worn parts.

SUPERB Quality (2017-08-01)

I used this mainspring build kit to build up a Ruger flat mainspring housing. I have to say I was much more than just pleased by the parts that were included. Everything fit perfectly and effortlessly into the MS housing and works great. While the pins are all high quality and came in Brownells labeled bags, the mainspring itself is (at least in my kit and another reviewerâs) a Wolf spring.
