Best non-optical sight!(2010-05-22)
Rugged (evidently more than the new Lymans). Repeatable, precise adjustments. Yes, some require drill/tap, but if you have a drill press just get a CARBIDE straight-flute drill bit, a proper tap, and do it in 30 minutes. Otherwise it is a small charge for a gunsmith to do it. The "336" ones go on top of the Marlins without drilling, in the scope mount holes. The "96/36" ones require drilling unless you have a Marlin with the side-holes (many older models have them).
Only adjust 3/4 of it's range.(2014-08-12)
I changed the front sight on my Marlin 336 to an aperture that was .50 inch tall. The Williams came installed with an elevation knob/screw that only adjusts it 3/8" of it's 1/2" total indexed range then the screw comes out. Called Williams and they have a fix (longer screw) for $11 with shipping. I expect any "target" sighting device to be adjustable through it's entire indexed range out of the box or at least information when buying that discloses it's limitations especially when they appear to have photos of the full index marks! I have bought my last Williams product.
It would work with the original front sight.
Great sight(2018-05-22)
I use this on my Marlin Cowboy 45-70. It works great and seems to hold pretty well. Iâll be doing more testing but Iâm very happy with it.

The reason it didn't fit the "new" style gun is because you bought the wrong sight. If you'd have bought the 962-000-070 TMTK (TOP MOUNT Target Knob) it would have been perfect. These are great sights but I would prefer that they came with the LONG elevation screw rather than having to add one later. That's the only reason for the 4 stars rather than 5.
Best availible option(2010-08-24)
I used this sight on my 1954 39A with a Lyman 17A globe front. Even with the shortest front you will probably need the long elevation screw. All that being said, this is the best sight for a rifle that you will hunt and plink with. Very good construction for the money, much better than the Lyman as it is now made.
Excellent sight(2011-01-12)
I use this sight to shoot NRA Smallbore Cowboy lever action and Pistol cartidge silhouette's. It is very repeatable.I have it zeroed at 50 yds. and go up and down for each match sometimes 2 matches a day at 6 different matches a month from Feb. to Oct. and have been for the last 3 years.Much sturdier than Brand L.I have 9 Williams FP TK sights
Excellent sight.(2013-05-02)
As Eric said above, if you're using this with a globe front sight you definitely need the longer elevation screw, sold elsewhere on this website. I mounted a Redfield Globe Front sight on my 1953 Marlin 39a with a custom made base. With the standard screw, it was 6 inches low at 25 yards. The longer screw gives you an additional 1/4" of elevation to the rear sight. Williams should supply this screw with the sight and raise the price slightly.
Worth the money(2016-02-08)
Used on Marlin 39a for NRA Smallbore Silhouette matches. This is the only sight that belongs on a 39a. This sight has 1/4 moa clicks, is perfectly repeatable, and weighs 1.5 OZ. The 39a comes from a time when quality and dependability ruled the day, this sight matches the 39a perfectly. This will increase your sight radius by over 6 inches, and will increase your score by 3-5 points immediately. No more need for hold over, with quarter minute clicks you are always holding dead nuts. As a side note, putting a scope on a 39a should be illegal. Leaving the factory leaf rear sight should also be illegal. lol, joking...?
Excellent sight Henry Rifle(2013-11-17)
I installed this on a Henry H001T with excellent results. Very clean lines and full adjustably, easy to drill and tap aluminum receiver.Used .404 fire front sight.
A winner(2014-11-02)
Easy to install on factory holes. I won the "A" class Texas State Cowboy Lever Action Silhouette match with this sight on a Winchester 94 in 30-30. I used 130gr and 170gr bullets and the sight settings were repeatable and predictable. I will use this on my new Pistol Cartridge rifle too.
Suggestion - clean the screw holes in your rifle with a good solvent and use locktite on the mounting screws.
Williams Sight for Marlin 1895(2014-12-06)
I have a 1972 Marlin 1895. It was drilled for the Williams sight from the factory. The sight was incredibly easy to install, very easy to manipulate the knobs for adjusting the sight. I cannot wait to go hunting with this sight. It's a major improvement from iron sights. I wouldn't hesitate to put this on my other marlins. Its a great sight and well worth the price.
Pleasantly surprised!(2017-04-12)
These sights seem very sell-built and sturdy. I installed them in under 10 minutes at my shooting bench. Tested several cast and jacketed bullet loads at different ranges with them. They noticeably improved my groups. Much better than optics on a 30-30. Wish I had bought them sooner!
