Epoxy Coating Comes Off In Use(2009-08-11)
I bought this .22 caliber rod and used it very briefly and liked it so much I bought 4 more in calibers ranging from .17-7mm. After about a year of use in benchrest shooting and only with a high quality bore guide to help in keeping the rod in alignment with the bore; the expoxy coating started coming off everywhere on the rod. In other words the coating didn't come off due to scratching or scraping but just started delaminating itself from the steel. I first noticed it when I brushed the barrel and the black epoxy stuck to the brush. I use Butch's Bore Shine and Copper Killer products exclusively and don't know if this is why, but these rods have since all been sent back to Brownells even though 2 or 3 of them have not yet seen any real use. The .20 caliber rod had started to do the same thing near the tip. I thought these would be great but don't want any pieces of epoxy in my barrels as that can't be good.
GREAT ROD(2009-12-23)
Rod works very well. I own several in various calibers. I do know that Bore Tech has recently changed their coating to an extremely scratch and chemical resistant coating. I have used Butches on this new coating without a problem. Stopped using Butches as soon as I tried Bore Tech Eliminator. Talk about an impressive chemical that doesn't stink!!!!
Great cleaning rod!(2011-03-24)
I've been using this rod for a while on my AR's and it has held up well. No issues with the coating. The bearings in the handle spin like nothing I've uesd before!
