Easy To Use-Great Tool!(2009-10-22)
This tool makes it an easy job to work the sears on the 1911 pistol.
The adjustment feature makes it adaptable to different length sears, and the instructions are well prepared.
Great for the price(2009-12-18)
For anyone that wants a starter sear jig, this it the most cost effective option. Browns' pin fits most 1911 sears, the shim is good quality and the base itself is well made. I have large hands, so it is difficult to hold in my hand and keep it at a perfect level. To fix this I used my end mill to square the sides to properly fit in my gun vise. Use tape to keep the shim in place so you can concentrate on the pressure and consistency of your stone along with your other hand keeping the sear in place when you draw the stone backwards. While you are at it, pick up a jeweler's loupe to inspect your work. Hope this helps, that's my $.02
Perfect your sear(2010-08-17)
This was very easy to use. I have fairly large hands and this wasn't difficult to manipulate for me. I can see where really large hands my have a slight challenge using this. It comes with a shim, easy to read instructions, and is preset and ready to go to Ed Brown's specs. It is also adjustable for different sears and it's value priced. Using this properly, I don't see this ever wearing down. It got my sear perfect. The proverbial glass rod breaking is just a few stone strokes away. Very easy and didn't take much time. A magnifying glass helps to get a good close look at your work as you progress. Another great tool in my collection
Worked well(2011-03-15)
I just used this jig today to tune up a Series 80 sear and it worked very well! The sear was pretty beat up, I am shocked it passed the safety tests before tear-down but this jig, 2 stones and now the sear is spot on. I would suggest you also purchase the Brownell pins which allow you to mount the sear/hammer on the outside of the pistol for fitting.
Easy to Use and Works Great(2011-04-03)
I used this to do the triggers of four (4) of my 1911's. Works like a champ.
The learning curve is a slight challenge, but once you have it down, its easy.
I also bought the externally mounted pins for alignment and checking my work. I am very glad I did and those also saved me tons of time.
Great Product(2011-06-10)
Don't know how you could do a quality trigger enhancement without one of these. My customers are very pleased with the results this tool can deliver. Recommended.
Great 1911 sear jig for the money.(2012-05-17)
This jig is easy to use. The learning curve is very short if you know what you are doing. I used another one sold here at Brownells and the Brown Sear jig is set from the facory for the correct cutting angle. The shim is easey to hlod while stoning the sear. Because of the angle cut it is easy to hold the sear aginst the set screw wile stoning the sear. The directions are very well done.
Simple and easy to use(2012-05-19)
This is an easy to use tool. It is well designed, and doesn't get much simpler. If used correctly, jig produces as good of a sear angle and finish as is possible. Price is also reasonable.
Perfect Jig, Great Price!!(2012-09-23)
Bought this to stone a new wilson combat sear. WOW. Can't believe how easy this made it. I have a crisp, smooth and clean breaking trigger now. This was my first ever "trigger job" So I'd recommend it to anyone staring off in the 1911 world.
Nice results(2012-10-09)
A little awkward but great results.
Works Great(2014-12-11)
Got this with a couple of stones. Cleaned up the creep and now I have a nice clean breaking trigger.
Good but couple issues(2015-05-28)
I've used this tool on 3 sears, and it works pretty well. I do not like that it does not provide for setting the secondary angle. I suppose this isn't critical, but it's simply left to chance and feels like it only does half the job. Watching the Brownells video helps. Second, I'd prefer a tool made to be secured in a vise. I'd like to ask whoever designed it why they prefer to hold everything by hand. Seems like a vise makes everything steadier, easier to stone. Just opinions. The triggers have been safe and nice enough for competitive shooting (PPC), though not quite as nice as a few custom pistols I've tried/owned - obviously, this is more to do with my inexperience. The last one breaks cleanly at 3.75lbs. I'd recommend it to anyone with those comments. I haven't used any other jig, but am tempted if I can find another victim - I mean customer - to fund a build.
Did the trick!(2015-11-28)
Very easy to use. Took the creep out of 2 of my 1911's in just a few strokes.
Great tool(2016-09-14)
Did my first ever trigger job with this tool. I used the ceramic stones recommended for this job and made relatively few passes with each. At the range I could not have been happier with the result, a very much improved break. No issues with function.
I did find the tool somewhat awkward to use, as noted though it was my first ever trigger job. I am sure that with practice its use would/will become second nature.
