Easy install(2012-12-13)
Perfect, dropped in no fitting great product for my Kimber
No sweat! The Colt now has ambi...(2013-08-20)
After trying a different product with some disappointments, I ordered the Kimber part. No fitting required on my Colt, it functions perfectly on the first drop-in. (passed all the function tests)
I will highly recommend this over all the rest. No need to change or modify the right grip panel as well.
Issues(2013-10-12)
Drops in my Sig very nicely. Needed to tighten the tongue and grove fit, but no matter what, the right side walks its way out. Actually fell out while shooting. No longer in my 1911.
Drop-in fit(2014-01-30)
I installed this ambi safety in a Kimber Pro Carry II. It was a drop in fit, no fitting required. Couldn't be happier.
Great Fit(2014-07-15)
I'm a lefty and needed an ambi safety for my primary carry gun. Based on Kimber's reputation as well as the many positive reviews I found here and elsewhere, I decided to give this one a try. This fit perfectly, without fitting, into my Para Elite Carry .45 ACP. I'm very pleased with my purchase.
Highly Quality Part(2014-08-30)
I've used other good ambi safeties which required a decent amount of fitting, which is understandable and not a negative in my book. However, it was as if this part was made to go into by Desert Eagle 1911C, because it fit like a glove - no fitting required! Can't say your experience will be the same as all guns are different. But I was very impressed with the fit and finish of this part - very well made. The hammer pin retainer for the right side is pretty innovative, and it holds everything together tight.
Worth the wait!(2015-01-21)
Installation was a snap!
No fitting for me(2015-07-15)
Ok story time, I purchased a R1 enhanced and i'm left handed. I purchased the ambi safety from Ed Brown and Wilson. Both were great and fit with some honing and fitting, but worked. However the issue i had with them is that they walked out through use and i would have to tap them back in. Not to the point where they would fall out, or fail to function, but enough to annoy and caused concern.
Now, i decided to not have this happen to me again and was close to purchasing the ambi safeties with the hammer pin that captures the right side of the safety, however, i did not like the idea of paying $150 for it. I thought this one was a good one and placed the order, which arrived today.
Installed easy, no fitting or honing required, and passed all the function checks. No range yet, but unless it fails completely there, which i will update if so, this is a great alternative to the much more expensive models. For the same price as the ed brown and wilson models, without the hammer pin, this is a great safety. 5 stars if it doesn't fail at the range, which i don't see happening.
Wipe the oil off!(2015-11-23)
Finishing up a build and my whole gun is matte finish. I ordered a couple other ambi's that were listed as "blue matte" and they arrived with a slight sheen to them...enough that they stuck out on the gun a bit. I came across this one and someone specifically asked if it was a matte finish and the answer was yes. I get mine in and thing is shiny as all heck! I was pretty upset until I opened it up and realized it was just the sheen of the oil from the factory. It is in fact matte and the finish looks great. Also like the added pin. I'm not even a big Kimber fan, but I like this part.
A great safety(2016-09-11)
I recently purchased a Kimber TLE in 10mm and being left- handed, needed this safety.
I read a number of reviews on ambidextrous safeties and this model received many positive reviews. I can add another positive experience to the list!
This safety was a pleasure to install, and had better fit than the original. The captive hammer pin is a good idea: smooth and positive. The safety did not require any modification to the right grip panel.
The size is right too. Extended for easy use, but not so wide it would hang on anything.
I am happy with this safety and would recommend it!
Nice safety(2017-02-09)
Bought this safety for my Remington R11 as I am a lefty. Brownell's steered me in right direction for the correct model safety (Government) to buy for my gun. Installation was a little tricky. What are included with the safety are the left and right side safeties and a new hammer pin which must be used instead of the one on the gun. Problems I had were assembling the gun after I installed the safety which had NOTHING to do with the product. I thought the product was relatively simple to work with.
To install the safety I found it easier to take the slide off the gun, but you donât have to. You can start with the mainspring housing and go from there. I watched a video on you tube which showed how to fit a regular replacement safety. This video was the best I found as there were no Kimber videos available. It also helped with disassembly and reassembly along with NRAâs firearms assembly 4, 4th printing 1988. My old safety showed where I had to file the new safety to fit it correctly. It took 4 strokes of a file. I used a General brand needle file from a set I bought from Brownell's years ago. Maybe on your gun it will drop in without fitting?
The safety on the right side is installed first and its slot is lined up with the new hammer pin which fits in a notch on the right side safety. The left side safety is then lined up with the right side safety and you are good to go to reassemble your gun.
I would be glad to give anyone the link to the video I used.
I need to get some more!(2017-02-12)
Kimber has gotten EVERYTHING right about this safety:
***Great design: no safety cut needed in the right grip panel.
***True drop-in: no fitting needed (in a Ruger SR1911). It would, however, be easy to remove a bit of metal at the top of the safety (and then reblue) if you needed the safety to sit higher to be solidly, positively on safe.
[Note: On my gun, the safety, once installed, was mushy: too easy to move on and off. The problem was NOT the safety, however: a kinked plunger spring had been installed at the factory and was providing almost no pressure to the safety. Once that damaged spring was replaced, the safety was quite positive and yet not stiff, requiring no fitting.]
***Great price.
I have two more unilateral-safety 1911s, and I will use THIS safety to change them to ambi.
Excellent Product & Easy to Install(2017-04-17)
I installed this safety on a 9mm Colt Government Model pistol. As many other reviewers have said, it was a drop-in fit on my pistol - no fitting required. It clicks on and off positively, whether using the left or right paddle. That said, there is apparently a small burr on the right side paddle that has slightly scratched the bluing on the frame of my gun (thus 4 stars versus 5). I should have checked that before I installed it, because I am sure it would have been easy to stone down the burr. A bit of cold blue will correct the marring of the finish, but I wish I had examined all parts under magnification prior to installation. Regardless, this is a quality part and I'm glad I got it. If you need an ambidextrous safety for a 1911, this is the one to get.
